Life in Kathikas
Kathikas is a small and friendly village in the hills above Paphos. Daily life here starts with a strong Greek coffee in the local cafe, and a chance to practise your Greek with the villagers. The centre of the village is a 5 minute walk from the villa, and for such a small village, has an amazing number of really nice Cypriot tavernas. You will be spoilt for choice, but you should definitely try Imogen’s Taverna, with its charming candle-lit courtyard dining room, Petrodaki’s, who make their own delicious wine on the premises (and will sell you a bottle or two to take home), and Yiannis taverna, which hosts a Cypriot night once a week with traditional food and entertainment. There is regular entertainment at The Farmyard, and if you want a quiet night in, Fytos will make you a fresh souvlaki to enjoy at home.
When you are not chilling by the pool, there is lots to explore in Cyprus. Our favourite beach is Lara Beach, a quiet stretch popular with the locals. This is where sea turtles come to lay their eggs, and you can occasionally see them hatch and make their way down to the water if you are there early enough. We once found ourselves swimming with a hatchling as it made its way past us and out to sea.
For those who prefer a faster pace of life, the beaches and bars of Coral Bay and Paphos are a short drive away, offering beach sports, off-road tours, music, and a more vibrant nightlife.
The airport is also in Paphos, around 30 minutes drive from the villa, with regular direct flights from all over the UK. Flying time is under 5 hours, meaning an early flight will have you at the villa in time for a bit of relaxation and a dip in the pool before you head off for dinner.
